How to log battery health

  • Charge to 100% and note the range. Do it in mild weather for comparable results.
  • Log 3-4 times per year. Seasonally, so you can separate winter loss from real degradation.
  • Use the car's SoH readout. Many EVs (Tesla, Hyundai, Kia) expose it in service menus.
  • Compare like for like. Same temperature, same tire pressure, similar route.

How it's calculated

  • Your SoH = observed range ÷ official range × 100 (same conditions).
  • Typical curve = calendar + cycle aging for your chemistry.
  • Fast charging adds ~1% per 10% share over 5 years.
  • LFP degrades ~30% slower than NMC on cycles.
  • Individual results vary with climate and charging habits.
