How to log battery health
- Charge to 100% and note the range. Do it in mild weather for comparable results.
- Log 3-4 times per year. Seasonally, so you can separate winter loss from real degradation.
- Use the car's SoH readout. Many EVs (Tesla, Hyundai, Kia) expose it in service menus.
- Compare like for like. Same temperature, same tire pressure, similar route.
How it's calculated
- Your SoH = observed range ÷ official range × 100 (same conditions).
- Typical curve = calendar + cycle aging for your chemistry.
- Fast charging adds ~1% per 10% share over 5 years.
- LFP degrades ~30% slower than NMC on cycles.
- Individual results vary with climate and charging habits.
