Aerodynamic drag grows with the square of speed. At 120 km/h an EV uses roughly 30-40% more energy than at 80 km/h, so highway range is typically 20-30% below the WLTP mixed figure.

What is the best highway speed for an EV?

For the best balance of range and practicality, 100-110 km/h is the sweet spot. Dropping from 130 to 110 km/h can recover 15-20% of range while only adding ~10 minutes per 200 km.

How much range do I lose at 130 km/h?

At a constant 130 km/h, expect roughly 45-55% less range than the official WLTP figure for many EVs — the combined cycle assumes ~47 km/h average, which is nothing like highway driving.

Do heat pumps help on the highway?
