Infotainment Screen Freezes or Reboots
The touchscreen becomes unresponsive, lags, or reboots while driving.
What causes it
Software bugs, memory buildup, or the screen unit overheating in direct sun.
What to do
- Restart the infotainment - most brands let you reboot by holding the power/volume button for 10-15 seconds.
- Let it cool - screens overheating in sun can lag; park in the shade.
- Update the software - infotainment fixes are the most common over-the-air update.
- Clear app cache / remove unused apps if your system allows.
- Check for a memory leak pattern - if it freezes after hours of use, it may be a known bug with a fix.
When to see a dealer
The screen is safe to ignore for a few minutes, but if it reboots repeatedly or the car loses climate control access, book a service - the head unit may need replacement under warranty.
