Troubleshoot electric vehicle charging problems step by step, then use the interactive tools to estimate time and cost.
Vehicle does not charge
- 1. Try a different cable and a different charger — this isolates vehicle vs. infrastructure.
- 2. Inspect the charging port for debris, moisture or damaged pins.
- 3. Check charging schedule / timers and the charge current limit setting.
- 4. Listen for the charger latch and the on-board charger relay.
- 5. Run a diagnostic with the symptom "Vehicle does not charge".
Slow charging
- 1. Check the wallbox/cable power rating and the home supply.
- 2. Check battery temperature — cold or hot batteries charge slower.
- 3. Verify the charge current limit and scheduled windows.
- 4. Retest at a public AC charger to rule out home supply.
- 5. If only DC is slow, suspect thermal derating or the charge curve.
DC fast charging problem
- 1. Try a different DC network to rule out charger/network faults.
- 2. Precondition the battery in cold weather before fast charging.
- 3. Check DTCs after a failed session.
- 4. If AC works but DC fails, suspect the high-voltage charging circuit or BMS.
