Frequently asked questions

How do I calculate motor torque from power?

Torque (Nm) = 9.5488 × power (kW) ÷ RPM. A 150 kW motor at 8,000 RPM delivers ~179 Nm. EVs feel fast because they produce near-peak torque instantly.

Why do EVs have so much torque?

Electric motors deliver near-maximum torque from 0 RPM, unlike combustion engines that need revs. This is why a 200 hp EV accelerates like a 280 hp petrol car.

What is the difference between kW and Nm?

kW is power (how fast energy is used), Nm is torque (turning force). Power = torque × rotational speed. A motor can have huge torque but moderate power if it spins slowly.

How do I convert lb-ft to Nm?

Multiply lb-ft by 1.3558 to get Nm. A motor producing 400 lb-ft produces about 542 Nm.
