EV Speed vs Range Calculator

Speed is the #1 range killer. Slide the dial and watch your range melt from 90 km/h to 130 km/h — then find the speed that gets you there fast enough.

Aerodynamics matter most at speed.

Frequently asked questions

How much does speed affect EV range?

Dramatically. Aerodynamic drag scales with the square of speed. Going from 90 to 120 km/h can cut range by 25-35%. At 130 km/h, many EVs lose half their official range.

What speed gives the best range?

The most efficient range is usually at 60-80 km/h. On the highway, 100-110 km/h offers the best compromise between speed and range.

How much range do I lose per 10 km/h?

Roughly 6-10% per 10 km/h above 100 km/h, though it accelerates as you go faster. The loss from 110 to 120 km/h is bigger than from 90 to 100 km/h.

Is range loss at high speed the same for all EVs?

No — aerodynamic EVs like the Tesla Model 3 or IONIQ 6 lose less at speed than boxy SUVs. A low drag coefficient pays off most on the highway.
