A scooter that won't charge is frustrating, but it is often fixable at home. Work through these steps in order.
1. Check the charger and socket first
Test the charger on another device or scooter if possible. A dead charger is the most common cause - and the cheapest fix.
2. Inspect the charging port
A bent pin or a broken connector is surprisingly common after falls. Look closely and try a gentle wiggle.
3. Let a deeply discharged battery recover
Lithium batteries refuse to charge when the voltage is too low. Plug in for 30 minutes, and the BMS may 'wake up' and start charging normally.
4. Check the fuse
Many scooters have an internal fuse near the battery connector. A blown fuse means no charging. Replace with the same rating.
5. Look at the BMS reset button
Some scooters have a small reset button on the battery or BMS. Press it with a paperclip.
6. Verify the battery connector
The connector between battery and controller can loosen from vibration. Unplug and firmly re-seat it.
7. Test with a multimeter
If you are comfortable, measure battery pack voltage. If cells are below ~30V for a 36V pack, the BMS may need professional help.
When to stop DIY
If the battery swells, feels hot, or you have tried everything above - stop. A swollen lithium battery is a fire risk. Take it to a professional.
