Emergency Kit for Every EV Owner
You're not sure what to carry in your EV for breakdowns, winter and long trips.
What causes it
EVs need a few items that petrol cars don't - charging cables, adapters and a proper jack setup.
Must-haves
- Type 2 charging cable - many public AC chargers are untethered.
- Cable adapters - keep the ones for your region (Type 1/2, and a NACS adapter if useful).
- Tyre repair kit or spare - EVs often lack a spare; a pump and sealant can save a trip.
- Portable jump pack - for the 12V battery (the most common EV breakdown).
- High-vis vest, warning triangle and torch - required by law in most places.
Nice to have
- A tire pressure gauge (EVs are pressure-sensitive).
- Warm clothes/blanket in winter.
- Phone power bank and charging apps offline maps.
- Snow chains if you drive mountain passes.
Good habit
Check your kit twice a year (before winter and before summer road trips). A small, well-packed kit turns most EV emergencies into a 10-minute fix.
