EV Air Conditioning Blows Warm or Weak Air
The cabin won't cool down, or the AC feels weak compared to a petrol car.
What causes it
A clogged cabin filter, low refrigerant, the heat pump freezing in humidity, or Eco mode limiting the compressor.
What to do
- Replace the cabin filter - a clogged filter is the most common cause of weak airflow.
- Turn off Eco mode - Eco limits the compressor to save range.
- Set recirculation - this cools the cabin much faster in summer.
- Check the heat pump - in humid weather it can ice up; run it on Max AC briefly to defrost.
- If air is genuinely warm, refrigerant may be low - top it up at a service (heat-pump systems need specialist equipment).
Note
Pre-cooling while plugged in (preconditioning) uses grid power and gives you a cool cabin without draining the battery.
