My EV Rattles or Creaks When Driving
Creaks, rattles and buzzes come from the cabin or trim while driving.
What causes it
Trim panels, seat tracks, loose items, or door seals - amplified because EVs have no engine to mask them.
Why EVs rattle more
There's no engine noise to cover trim creaks. What was masked in a petrol car is now audible.
What to do
- Empty the car - loose items in doors, glovebox and boot cause most 'mystery rattles'.
- Check door pockets and seat tracks - the most common sources.
- Check the door seals - a creak when going over bumps is often a dry seal; clean and apply silicone.
- Headliner and sunroof - press around the edges; a rattle there may need a clip.
- If it persists, have the dealer find it - most rattles are fixed under warranty with felt or clips.
Tip
Film the noise with your phone (audio helps) and note speed/surface - it dramatically speeds up the dealership diagnosis.
