My EV Won't Charge to 100%
Charging stops at 80-90% even though you set it to charge fully.
What causes it
A charging limit in the car or app (set for battery health), a daily-charge schedule, or the battery balancing routine completing early.
What to do
- Check the charging limit setting - most EVs default to 80-90% for battery longevity; raise it if you need full range.
- Look for a 'daily' vs 'trip' charge profile - some cars schedule the last 10% just before departure.
- If it still stops early, the battery may be balancing; leave it plugged in an extra hour.
- On public chargers, a session ending at 80% is often the station or a car-side limit for fast-charge speed.
Note
Charging to 100% occasionally for road trips is fine. For daily use, 80-90% is recommended to extend battery life.
