Regenerative Braking Feels Weak or Inconsistent

One-pedal or regen braking suddenly feels much weaker, or varies between drives.

What causes it

Cold batteries limit regen, a full or nearly full battery has nowhere to store energy, or drive settings changed.

Why it varies

  • Battery near 100% - regen is reduced or disabled to avoid overcharging.
  • Cold battery - regen is limited until the battery warms; you'll see reduced regen on the dash.
  • Sport/Off-road mode - some modes reduce or disable regen.

What to do

  1. Check the battery level - if above ~95%, this is normal.
  2. Warm the battery before driving hard in winter (precondition while plugged in).
  3. Check your drive mode and regen setting.
  4. If regen is weak with a half-charged warm battery and feels jerky, book a service - it can signal a brake or sensor issue.
