E-Bike Belt or Chain Slips Under Full Power

The chain skips or the belt jumps when you pedal hard or accelerate uphill.

What causes it

A worn chain/cassette, a loose belt tension, or a freewheel that has play.

What to do

  1. Check chain stretch - a worn chain skips; use a chain checker tool.
  2. Check belt tension - belt drives (like the CGO600 or C380) need correct tension; a loose belt slips under torque.
  3. Inspect the cassette and chainring - worn teeth cause skipping.
  4. Check the freewheel - if it has play or clicks, it needs replacement.
  5. Shift under load is normal to avoid - never shift while mashing the pedals hard.

When to replace

If the chain is stretched or the cassette teeth look shark-fin shaped, replace both together. On belt bikes, a properly tensioned belt should never slip - if it does, the tensioner or belt is worn.
