E-Bike Display Error Codes: What the Common Ones Mean
The display shows an error code and the motor stops assisting.
What causes it
Error codes signal specific faults - most common are connector, torque sensor, and battery issues.
Common codes
- E01 / E02 - motor wiring or hall sensor fault. Re-seat the motor connector.
- E05 / E10 - throttle or controller fault. Check the throttle connector.
- E04 - torque sensor fault (common on mid-drive bikes).
- E08 - brake lever sensor stuck; the motor won't run if a brake is detected.
- E09 / E21 - battery or BMS communication error.
- E12 - motor blocked or seized.
What to do
- Note the exact code and check your brand's manual.
- Re-seat all connectors - vibration loosens them.
- Power-cycle the battery (remove, wait 30s, reinsert).
- If the code persists, the component needs replacement - check warranty.
Some codes are brand-specific, so search your model plus the code for the precise fix.
