E-Bike Range Drops in Winter: What to Expect

What to do
- Store the battery indoors - a warm battery starts with more usable capacity.
- Charge at room temperature - charging a frozen battery is slow and stressful on cells.
- Inflate tires to spec - cold air drops pressure, adding rolling resistance.
- Pedal more - reduce assist level to extend range in winter.
- Keep a 20% buffer - don't push to empty in the cold.
Good to know
The capacity loss is temporary - the battery recovers full range when warm. If winter range has permanently halved from new, check battery health.
