E-Scooter Display Shows Fault or Error Code
The display flashes an error code and the motor stops, often mid-ride.
What causes it
Brand-specific faults - most commonly motor hall sensors, throttle, controller, or brake sensor errors.
What to do
- Note the code - look it up in your brand's manual or app.
- Power-cycle - turn off, wait 10 seconds, restart. Many errors are transient.
- Re-seat connectors - the throttle and motor connectors under the deck loosen from vibration.
- Check the brake levers - a stuck brake sensor blocks the motor (a common error cause).
- Check tire clearance - something caught in the motor/fender can trigger a stall error.
Common codes (generic)
- E1-E3 - throttle or accelerator fault.
- E5/E6 - motor or hall sensor fault.
- E8-E10 - controller fault.
If the code returns after a power-cycle, the part needs replacement - throttle and brake sensors are cheap and easy to swap.
