Scooter Battery Swelling: Danger Signs and What to Do

The battery pack looks puffy or swollen, or the deck feels bulged.

What causes it

Overcharging, extreme heat, deep discharges, or cell damage causing the lithium cells to release gas and swell.

⚠ Safety first

A swollen lithium battery can catch fire. Do not ride, charge, or puncture it.

What to do

  1. Stop using the scooter immediately.
  2. Place the scooter outside, away from anything flammable.
  3. Contact the brand or a battery recycler - many offer recall or recycling programs.
  4. Never open or repair the pack yourself.

Prevention

  • Don't charge to 100% and leave it for days.
  • Avoid charging in direct sunlight or after a hot ride.
  • Stop charging when the battery is hot.
  • Use only the brand's charger.
