Electric Scooters
E-Scooter Makes a Clicking Noise While Riding
A regular clicking or ticking sound from the wheel or folding mechanism as you ride.
What causes it
A loose folding latch, a wheel bearing, a spoke hitting a fender, or the brake disc rubbing.
What to do
- Check the folding latch and clamps - a loose latch clicks on every bump. Tighten to spec.
- Spin the wheels by hand - a clicking that follows wheel rotation suggests a bearing or a fender/frame contact.
- Check the brake disc - a warped or misaligned rotor clicks as it passes the caliper.
- Check spokes - a loose or broken spoke ticks against the frame.
- Tighten all bolts - handlebar, stem, deck screws.
When to stop
If the click is accompanied by play in the wheel or a grinding feel, stop riding - a failing bearing can seize at speed. A click from a loose latch is a quick fix and worth doing before it damages the stem.
